Advice for Towers

The Belfry

In September 2022 Branch Secretaries circulated an announcement from the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers (CCCBR) of an online document aimed at the Steeple Keeper – the person responsible for keeping the bells in order.
It is my opinion as the website administrator, that the Stewardship & Management Workgroup have put a great deal of effort into producing this guide and it deserves wider circulation. It will make interesting reading for any ringer, not just those involved in belfry maintenance.
Covering a wide range of topics and clearing up such mysteries in my mind as who owns the bells and obtaining permission to carry out work on them. We may all know how to ring, but many have no idea what goes on above our heads, this is a good way to find out as there are photographs and text to explain the various types of installations found in the belfry.
Please take a look at their document belfryupkeep.cccbr.org.uk on the Central Council's website
The W&DCRA Belfry Advisory Panel can offer advice to towers, visit their web page on this site The WDCRA B.A.P.

Running a Tower

Additionally the CCCBR added another useful guide to their website in March 2023 on how to run a tower, going well beyond the ringing, covering all the practical issues that need to be considered. runningatower.cccbr.org.uk
